What is the best way to keep fungus from developing on the eggs.
If I leave them alone the parents pick off the eggs with fungus and all the ones around them.It ends up with them eating 90% before they hatch.
I covered them with screen and the whole batch was covered with fungus.
I know that some things inhibit the slime coat and this has been a problem with this pair. The first few times they spawned they didn't turn dark and the fry didn't stick. I would like to get a large batch before I go through the effort of raising another batch.
Thanks Robert

Robert,

Most people recomend 1 drop of Formalin per gallon to prevent fungus on the eggs.

Doug has got it right. Works great for me. I've seen even more than that before. Best hatches I had was when I put it just above the eggs.

You can also use methylene blue.

I believe in some states you can't get formalin.

Thanks I'll try formalin next batch. Will it hurt to also use a uv light, i know that it removes a lot of meds.Does it have any effect on formalin?
