found a butcher that actually had beef heart! the best part is that was cleaned and frozen. I did not thaw it, I just took a cheese grater and chipped off enough to freeze flat in a sandwich size zip lock. I only added powder garlic and a ground up womens vitamin.
We'll see how they like it!

Tom,

The garlic powder is useless if you added it as a dewormer. You need freshly crushed garlic added to the beefheart as you prepare to feed it. This is also the way Wattley said he uses it.

Thanks Matt, but I also thought it stimulated their appetite, is that also only with fresh garlic?

I've never heard the appetite stimulator reference before today.

It started with the saltwater hobby (garlic extract) to get finky saltwater fish to eat from what i was told .

I've also never heard of garlic being used for that... doesn't mean that it didn't appear to work for somebody at some point. :p

I agree with Mat in that crushed fresh garlic is what you're going to want add if using for a dewormer. The powdered stuff lacks the essential ingredient contained in the fresh.

I've used garlic in homemade foods for years with saltwater. It does seem to get them to eat better. Maybe a chemical thing, maybe just taste better? Except I used crushed, not powder.

Garlic is suppose to help stimulate appetite and attract teh fish to the food.
