Had a warm and wet winter this year in NC. Dehumidifier did not keep up and mold/mildew is present. Two car garage with about 1000g of Aquariums. Will have to install an air to air heat exchanger.

Any recommendations (must be inexpensive)?

Im sorry to hear that! Its a pain in the butt. My recommendation is to look into your local phone book and find someone that does mold inspections to have them take a look at it. There are different types/strains of mold and some are not good for your health.

Here is a link for a site.

Keep us informed. Im interested in the outcome and what measures you take.

Well these are the two pieces of equipment I am looking at:

Out of the box will work, but high $$$$

Need some sort of controller (humidity most likely). Not really sure on this one, but easy on the pocket.

Try this site below. They have an exchanger for $415.00. Click on the Heat Recovery Ventilator on the lefthand side of the web site. HTH.

Went with Jehmco. Heck $1k vs the price of a moldy house is nothing. Let yall know how it goes.

Hi Chavez,

I think you did the right thing going with John at Jehmco. He can tell you some horror stories of hobbyists with humidity problems...a house full of mold and mildew is just not worth it. I also remember back a couple of years when I spoke with David Weber about the same problem and he installed the same unit from Jehmco with great results.

Good luck and keep us posted,
Lester

I live in Florida where we get 90-100% humidity yr 'round and lots-o-mold. I also work in HVAC for the past 15 yrs. As far as the mold goes, use 1 capfull bleach to one gal of water and remove with sponge. If you have gotten it in insulation, remove/dispose of asap, clean area & dry thoroughly and replace. Mold doesnt hurt until it dries and becomes airbourne. Very unlikely deadly types. Depends on the severity of mold as to whether remediation company needs involved. If in sheet rock and inside walls, may need to go that route. Very $$$. It can grow rapidly in those conditions without you knowing. If just surface, clean with beach to keep from traveling. Be careful if calling someone from phone book. Make sure certified for mold remediation. Lots of scams, charge $10,000 and still have problems. Then cant find the comapny. Lots of people here found out the hard way after our hurricanes. If is that serious, I can give you a list of reputible co in your area.
