peppering question

Ok, this is kind of a stupid question but here goes:
What actually causes peppering on pigeon blood discus??
And why do some have it and others don't?

I know how to keep it at a minimum but would love to know what causes it to be there in the 1st place.

It is thought that peppering is the remnants of the stress (or mood) bars on discus. For some time breeders have tried to get a solid coloured discus and breed out the bars, pepper is the remains and as such its not caused by anything as its genetic.
