Discus kept in water too alkaline and hard may often get holes in their heads.

Is there any truth in the above statement?

I believe hole in the head is caused by poor water conditions and improper diet not water hardness nor ph.I have my discus in hard water and never had a problem with hole in the head.

Brian,

I believe the short answer is No, its a too simplistic statement.

There is a correlation between mineral deficient water and diet and HITH and also a correlation between flagellates and HITH. Poor water quality alone won't necessarily cause HITH. This does not mean Alkaline, hard water is defined as poor btw!!

This is good to hear there for a minute I was sweating it. Butt I should clarifi the person that wrote this statement said that it should not be confused with Hith butt simply just holes in the head. I am not sure that this is even possible. I never herd of holes in the head without hith before have you?
