Question about 72gallon tank and 20 gallon sump

Hi,
if I have 72 gallon tank and 22 gallon sump. Water total 92 gallon,
Can I comfortably keep 9 full grown discus in it?
Or the size of the tank matters rather than the water capacity?

With a good volume of water changes 9 adult discus in a 72 gallon tank is just fine.
