OK something is not clear for me.

When you buy a Discus do you take from nose to tail for the size or how do you do it? Does it change from LFS to breeder or sponsor?

My LFS count from front to end of tail and I feel it's not the right way to get the size of a fish but may be I'm wrong.

I take from nose to the base of the caudal peduncle (so the tail is not counted)
So a 6 inches fish should be 6 inches without the tail

Is this the way every one of you are doing it when it come to buy a fish?

The "standard length" measurement is from tip of nose to base of tail (i.e. doesn't include tail). However, "total length" is also used in the industry, which includes the tail. Just make sure to ask which measurement is being used if you're ordering online, etc.

When you buy at the LFS what is the commun mesure?

LFS likes to use the total length, IME, cuz then they can impress people with the bigger numbers. Kinda like buying a Christmas tree, charge by the foot, even though you have to cut off that tall skinny branch at the top!

I'm sure different places do it differently, just have to ask when you shop.

I would recommend always asking,,, that way there are no surprises. Or if you are selling, let your buyer know which standard you go by so that their expectations are met.

We exclude the tail when measuring.

We do from nose to end of tail.

Looking at the reply it's seem this is another place where there is no commun agreement and everybody goes on ther own.

The simplest way is to always ask the seller how they measure theior fish, then you can make a judgement.
