hey everyone,

i have a 45 gal tank that i just started cycling roughly 4 weeks ago. Its undergoing a fishless cycle and i hope to get some discus in the tank a few weeks from now. The ammonia spike has passed and now the nitrite is up. So all is this is fine... but i noticed that there are little fuzzy white 'things' growing on the sponge filter and a little on the aquarium glass. anyone know what this is? is it harmful, and how can i get rid of this. the temp. is at 87 degrees and there are two hydro sponge filters in the tank.

i would like to get rid of this stuff b/c im worried it may be potentially harmful to the discus. thanks!

It sounds like fungus. Fungus is usually fuzzy. I don't think its good for the fish. Water change will get rid of it, but you are cycling your tank. Maybe you should wait until it's cycle before doing the water change.

Yep, sounds like fungus - it's OK for now, but wipe down and rinse everything (in dechlorinated water) really good before putting in discus
