what do you guys think?

What size are they?
How old are they?
How long had they been in the tank when you took the pictures?

Do the stress bars go away eventually?

Stress bars will be less visible as the discus enters adulthood.

hi rye!

in the first pic of the cobalt, maybe its just my monitor, but is there some coloration missing or erosion on the face around the front part of the eye?

the stress bars should lessen as the fish settle in and become more comfortable. are there only three in the tank?

does it mean the fish is stressful when this stress lines show up. my fishes show dark vertical line in the early morning, and they will become lighter when i turn on the acquarium light in the tank. does this mean anything?

The Cobalt looks amazing. Really nice colors. Btw, what camera are u using? Looks a bit under exposed but looks good.

My experience as far as stress bars. When they are feeling right you dont see them. If you see them, You have room for improvement in food or water quality, or it is the one that gets picked on the most.

My female shows extreme stress lines when she is about to spawn, or spawning.

I prefer to call them mood bars, Reason being they show them depending on circumstance. At feeding time they can show them, as a warning I suspect, during courtship & spawning, during territorial battles too. All of these indicate healthy happy discus in a decent quality of environment.

When they show them constantly and its acompanied by other physical signs then that is more typical of poor water quality or other environmental factors, or disease.

Agree with Paul. Also "wilds" always show their stress bars, to a greater or lesser degree.

Coken,
It really would be more appropriate to start your own thread, not hijack Rye's.
