Is a 10 too small for a 55
or should i use my 20H

i have a 55 on a stand
then i have a 10g on the bottom
i would have a glass top on the 10g

Definetly the 20.

Metfan,
I agree with Greg, I would only add that even the 20 is really too small IMO. I would go with something at least 30 gallons ( it doesn't necessarily need to be an aqauarim, just something that holds water)

You can buy Brute garbage cans that are thick and around 54 gallons.
Feel totally confident as far as integrity of product not leaking.
This allows you to do large wc's when needed.
If your fish get sick you are going to appreciate the ability to be able to do an aged large wc.

you can even buy a 96 gallon can from Home Depotor Lowes. I'm using 4 of them right now.

If you're contemplating using a water softening pillow, or using one now, if you have a 55 gallon tank, then think about getting an RO unit very soon. Softening pillows don't have the capacity, and also increase your chloride content quite high, which will have no beneficial effect on your total dissolved solids (TDS) in the long run.

An RO unit, 50 gallons/day, will run you only about $75, so why not get one now?

On the other hand, if you water is 8 GH or under (others here say even much higher GH is OK), forget about the softener or RO unit for the 55 anyway, you don't need it. Get the RO unit for breeding your fish, but not for keeping them.
