Hubby and I were looking at my budlea and we found this ant on the fence. He was at least an inch long easy! Crista was worried about her ladybug tho so we had to let him go.. lol

Its a queen ant..probably Carpenter ant.. They have wings when they leave the nest... The males are a fraction of the size.. The two mate in the air, the males die, the females lose their wings.
Over the next few months the female, now a queen, will absorb her wing muscles for food and energy while she lays a few eggs... the eggs hatch..turn into larvae then pupae.. and then into works and take care of the queen..

I think Brett let her go like right on the patio. I hope she finds her way back to the very back of the yard and doesn't lay those eggs by the house lol
