Its just part of nature's big plan...If the parents aren't up to protecting the eggs from him, he just strengthened the species....sort of...

Because they taste good....and he can!

Seriously...discus are opportunists just like any other species of fish. Food is food...be it anothers eggs, anothers fry, or thier OWN eggs and fry untill they learn that thier own isnt lunch...

Like Squiggy said....survival of the fittest.
