Ok i heard for discus longer is better than tall is this true ?I want to buy a 150 gallon it is 2 and a half feet tall 2 feet wide 4 feet long.Will this be ok or should i go with a longer tank? thanks Dan

For discus height matters most. Your 150 will be an excellent home for them

I hope you are very tall with loonngggg arms. Those 30 inch tall tanks are pretty hard to clean - especially the back wall :)

Exactly the reason I got a 125 instead of a 120, just far to difficult for me to clean a 24" deep, 24" high tank.

Just keep in mind that dissolved oxygen is a function of the surface area to volume ratio. Depth actually hurts this equation.
Also Dissolved Oxygen is also inversely related with temperature. For that reason, a shallower tank may indeed be more favorable given the same volume.
That's why I favor the 40 breeder to a 55 gallon.
and the 120 to a 125 given the dimension you mention.

It mostly depends on what type of hardscape/softscape you want to do. If it is a show tank or not. Planted vs BBB.
