GH (Gereral Hardness) is caused mainly by Calcium (Ca) and Magnesium (Mg) ions. KH is caused, usually, by calcium carbonate (CaCO3) they are two entirely different "animals". So it is entirely possible to have water like yours which has a low GH but a high KH (Carbonate Hardness).

phalough, I am really interested to hear what your numbers for KH, GH and PH are out of your tap. I have high PH and soft water myself. My PH was (I say was because it has now come down some, to 7.8 - I'm on a private well) 8.2 from tap, with KH of 5 and GH of 7.
