Too little information to hazard a guess. How long did you have them. When did they get sick? What was water change regimen, food, etc.

Seems like nitrate are way high, specially if your doing daily WC, unless I'm missing something here.

I know this may seem obvious, but unless the fish are really, really small, a 30 gallon tank is not big enough. With a 12 fish in that tank, parasites and disease --or just poor water conditions--can get out of hand quickly. With a larger tank, you have more margin for error and you and the fish will be happier.

Do you age your water? Or is it right from the tap? Do you use and water coditioner? Have you added new fish/plantes/etc.? Did you recently do a major filter-cleaning?

Is this a bare bottom tank?

With nitrates at 20, you are not doing enough water changes to house 12 Juvies in a 30 gallon tank.

You would need to do at least 50% twice a day in a bare bottom tank that size.

The most I put in a 30 to grow for even a short time, even when they are only 1.5 inches would be 10, and then I'd change 75% daily. Once they got to be 2.2.5 inches, then only 5 or 6 in a 30.

For 12, to grow them out properly, you need at least a 75 if not a 90 gallon tank.

For the 8 remaining, at least a 55 gallon tank.
