Bolivia, Puerto Rico, Columbia, India and Australia look pretty good too. They have a very strong field this year.

Ed, don't pay attention to tIMBO. He is kind of prejudice about Puerto Ricans : ) , I am Puerto Rican and grew up in Venezuela , but I do not think we have a chance this year. Puerto Rico and Venezuela have produce a great amount of Miss Universe winners. So I am very proud of my heritage.

Years ago when I was young I was watching the Miss Universe contest in Caracas and we were hit by a seven plus rector scale earthquake. You could see buildings wobble back and forth. I kept my cool until we went downstairs to the street and then fell apart . In the weeks after that it was very hard to go under bridges and go up in the high risers .

If Puerto Rico wins I will be very Happy....

I really hope it was only a joke!! I guess he is just mad that miss Canada was given a really nice gift last year!!:p

Forgot to mention that we are tied with Venezula for the most miss universe.
That's why Roberto and I are very proud!!

BTW, I still remember Trump when the contest was held here..

i'm not prejudiced against PR's; i did have some "interesting" experiences while living there however.

I was talking more about this:

http://www.samsloan.com/missuniv.htm

"There was an earlier incident involving Miss Universe winner Amparo Muņoz from Spain, who soon became a porn star"

"Vanessa Williams became the first black Miss America, only to have her title stripped a few days later when it was discovered that she had posed in hard core lesbian porn"

"Donald Trump (who owns the Miss Universe Contest) has made it clear that he wants beautiful women in the contest this year and is not especially interested in their college board scores, their abilities on various musical instruments, or their stated commitment towards working with crippled children after they win Miss Universe."

Starting to like Miss USA.

But she might be too short to win.

Hopefully, these experiences won't create a wrong view of my people!
And I apologize if any incident caused you harm in any way!
Sometimes visitors to my island don't ever want to leave and sometimes they leave with a state of mind like in your case.
Sorry you where not one of the many that have a lot of fun and can't wait to get back!!!:o

Getting back to the pageant, I'll cheer for any contestant that dares say "For world peace"

I'll root for the contestants that say "no cease fires, destroy all the terrorists".

hi ed

no, of course not...the PR folks are wonderful (bad drivers tho, you gotta admit) i felt like i was taking my life in my hands everytime i got on the highway. I kept a sailboat in the Virgins for three years based out of Fajardo.

Some of the best sailing the world! (86F and 10-15 knot easteries almost everyday)

I can't agree more. I only spent 3 weeks on the Tangaroa, a 95' solid teak Tahitian junk. I love the Carribbean!!!

LOL, I agree, was it just me or did they all look almost alike? (except different hair and possibly skin color?). Like a bunch of living Barbie dolls! :(. I couldn't believe the interests of some either ("playing with my dogs and cats"). Only reason to watch was my satelite was on the fritz and I was curious after this was posted and I flipped to the channel last night :).

One thing though, that evening dress on Miss USA was hideous!

Ed, you were right . I am very proud being from Puerto Rico.
Lots of people of Hispanic descent watch and follow the Miss Universe contest. It has been something that I watch since I was young. So we kind of " Really Care " , it has been with us since we were young.

She's a winner.

She looks better up close!!
Hispanics do care a lot about this. I think, at least in Puerto Rico's case, it has to do with the fact that the island measures about 100mile by 35 miles so any contestant might be a relative or a neighbor. I still remember one year in the Miss Puerto Rico pageant where two of the contestants went to school with me!

Hey Timbo, El Conquistador is probably the best hotel on the island Very expensive! My father has kept his boat in Puerto Chico and right now in Villa Marina both places a short ride from the Conquistador! This is a small world after all!!

Timbo
07-26-2006, 07:26 AM
right now in Villa Marina

spent a month in villa marina too, ALOT less expensive and a good restaurant just outside the gate as well :)

i got a good deal at El Conquistador because the guy i bought the boat from runs the scuba shop and he had a slip that was paid for in advance. That hotel has the best views in the Caribbean I'm sure with that 600' cliff it sits on. AMAZING pools, the golf course wasnt bad, but the hotel/casino/food...very nice!
