Marie,
Yep! They are certainly beautiful! I asked John if they were annuals though, since most Killies are. To me they are a bit of trouble, since you have to have them breed, then take and store the eggs, then let them open at a later date. It has always seemed too much bother to me. No doubt about it though, Killies are some of the most beautiful freshwater fish. The fact that they only live for months has always bothered me, but I guess that's just life in the big pond.

John,
I take it you belong to a Killi Club? Do you trade and/or sell them?

I am in a couple of killifish clubs and I do sell eggs and fish from time to time.

A real quick leason in killies....With annuals you have to dry and store the eggs. I have my fish spawn in peat. About once a week I pour the peat into a net and squeeze out the water. You then let it dry in newspaper for about 30 minutes. I label a freezer bag and put the peat in there. Throw it in the bottom of a closet somewhere for a couple of months. When you put it into water the eggs will hatch in about 4 hours. With the non-annuals you do not have to do this. They really are not very hard to do. My annuals live between 1 and 2 years (most people get about 9 months out of them but I change water on mine every night..go figure....) Non-annuals live about like live bearers. In a planted tank you will never run out of fish. Killifish normally spawn everyday. Many of the nothos start as early as 3 weeks. I will post some more pics tommorw from work.

Ooooh! I love killifish! I have not kept them yet but have thought about them more than several times. I actually almost bought some a year ago, but went with something different instead.

Very cool!

Depending on the species anywhere from 1 to 3 inches normally. They are a few that will get to the 5 to 6 inch mark. You can also checkout www.aka.org for info.
