Hey Guys ~ Need some food for thought If I may ~

Lot of people I know here in SacTown and basically thru out the entire EARTH....have lost the 'home phone' and just are using their cell phones~

I have always took issue with this cuz what if there was an emergency and your cell isnt charged up or no reception....and you have no house phone...

AND~

...some places will not de'lvr PIZZA based only on a cell phone number ~ GOTTA have that pizza!! lol!

Having said that I am really considering losing our house phone as we pay $100- a month for PHONES ~ which is hella dumb IMO and starting to really bug me! Esp when AT&T add crap w/o my authorization ~ and charge me for calls to ENGLAND which we never made and just constant BS! The latest was we saw that we were being charged like 8 bucks a month for 'long distance' by SPRINT....and I questioned AT&T....as I never requested long distance from anyone ~ as we use our cells ~ Their response was that SPRINT just took it upon themselves to add long distance to OUR phone bill from THEM....

Gimme a F* break! I demanded it to be taken off and ......you do not even wanna know the rest trust me:mad: ~

SO ~ what do YOU do? Have a lot of you disconnected your home phone and only use your cells??

Thanks!!

Still have house phones (my cell's reception stinks and it sometimes drops calls) but I use the cell for long distance. Basic coverage on the regular phone, and MCI long distance that I get charged only if I use it (which is never). Long distance on the cell is covered in the plan.

I think it stinks that you have to have a long distance carrier even if you don't use it.

I got rid of my land line years ago. Dont miss it a bit and will never have another. Like you said Marie too many BS charges. I only use a cell. I call my family on weekends when the minutes are free. That way I can talk to them as long as I want with no long distance charges.

Marie, I want my home phone. Cell phone signal is sometimes not good. We have the Verizon Freedom Plan, which is now $34.95/mo. and includes unlimited long distance - direct dialed calls to anywhere in the U.S., Guam, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands. Taxes and fees are extra. Maybe you want to get rid of AT&T? Your paying for your phones???? We own ours.

We have both. But we just switched the home phone to Comcast, so we get long distance and local for $35 a month. Of course you also have to have broadband which is $50 a month I think, plus cable which brings the total Comcast bill to around $160 a month, which is way too high IMO. The cells cost over $100 a month too, but we're about to break our contract with Cingular, who IMO are biggest f*cking rip off artists there are, plus they have f*ckedf up, f*cking sh*tty, f*cking phone service to boot.
<------- HATES Cingular
I used to have Nextel, but the "chirp" feature now has me so I will no longer answer any phone. I'm probably going the other way, getting rid of the cell phone entirely, I am tired of being always available. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_11_11.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZSYYYYYYJGUS)

Connie our home phone is around $40- a month and my cell is around $50-...which incl unlimited text*long distance*411* We use to have Verizion but got tired of worrying about going over on min and text~Now we have out here what is called Metro PCS ~

I will probably keep the house phone as I wld be to paranoid of not having the reception or something on the cell when we needed it the most~

But lately I so wanna just lose it:mad: It sure seems like a trend lately tho!! Makes me nervous still ~

Thanks everyone for your input!!

Well I don't pay for it, but they said that I had to sign up with someone. I just asked MCI to charge me by the minute for long distance than by the month (which was a bunch of money for nothing). Yeah some kind of racket they have. MCI spends money every month to tell me I owe them nothing though.

I have a VOIP phone through Comwave and my cable modem, $32.00 a month toll free North America & I use a pay as you go cell when I'm away from home.

What's a land line? Is that one of those things where you can talk to people who want to sell you stuff? Why pay for 2 phones? That $35 a month can go towards the term life insurnace policy you just bought from a telemarketer.

If you can't keep a cellphone charged let me know and I'll get my friend to hit you over the head with a tack-hammer.

Don't get the free phone, 1/2 the reception problems people have is because the cheap out and get a POS phone in the first place. Get a nice motorola or nokia and pay the extra cash for a phone that will last for the terms of the contract.

Who are you kidding Larry, when I came down to visit you I called both lines you don't answer either of them LMAO! Just get rid of both :p I don't think only having one phone to answer is going to motivate you to answer the phone more often!

My Verizon Freedom Plan is $34.95/mo, which includes local and unlimited long distance, plus I pay $15/mo for Verizon DSL line. As soon as my Nextel contract is over, I am going back to Verizon for cell service. Nextel s*cks.

Dis,
Exactly what part of "I don't answer either phone" did you fail to understand? As it happened when you called I was in the basement doing wc's, when I came upstairs to check the phone it had a an area code I was unfamiliar with on it, as you yourself said "vendors love calling land lines" so it was ignored. Oooops

<----- Knows your number now and will answer it... probably

We have both. Our home, high speed Internet and digital cable with 1000 channels and never a damn thing on is $140.00. Our cell phones are about $120.00 for two. 2000 minutes, with roll over minutes(which we have about 17,000 minutes) and free long distance. We normally use our cell phones for ld calls. I prefer having a phone at home because the kids. If we aren't here and there is an emergency they need to be able to call someone. I'm not a phone person anyway. lol The phone rings and me and Andrew just look at each other. lol The kids normally answer it. :D

My phone comes with different ring tones like a cell phone so what I do is for the people I know I have them on different distinctive rings and any one I don't know on one regular ring this way I don't have to jump for the phone. I would get a cell phone but I need the land line for the internet pluse land lines have better sound then cell phones do.

Hey Tj ~ I have all those dif rings too on my cell I cld use ~ as far as our land line goes ....See I don't need that for our internet connection as we have Broadband thru our Cable which gives us our highspeed/wireless~

...another reason why I was considering losing the land line...

You could just disconnect the land line and see how it works for you, if you don't like it that way you can always put it back in. My mom doesn't have a lane line only the cell and it works for her.
