Hi i recently added 14 cm marlborough red

I also have a 14cm pigeon blood red for about 6months

this evening both fish have been behaving oddly I have an upright piece of bogwood that they keep taking turns in biting. they the take turns in shaking there bodies and keeping the other fish away. I have had discus in my tank for a year now and have never seen this behavior before is it normal?

Sounds like the discus version of TANGO! ;) I'm guessing eggs will be laid soon!:D
Maybe some of the experts here can corroborate!

Normal mating behavior, pre-spawning. You may see eggs on the bogwood in a few days----or not!

Don't you believe it! I've seen this behavior before. Having grown up in a cranberry bog in New Jersey, I can tell you that these are wild bogwood eating discus from the Jersey bogs....:bandana:

just kidding....keep an eye out for eggs...:D

I have a pair that have been doing this for months, but no eggs, and now I have a new pair that gave no prelim behaviour, but has laid eggs 2x now! Go figure!

I did my usual 50% water change yesterday and right now eggs are being laid :)
I have a 4 foot tank that i can set up for them but should i try to breed them as they are different strains ?

Ihave been forced by wife and kids to divide the main tank to protect the eggs

still waiting for an answer on mixing different strains
