During the course of everything going wrong a couple weeks ago we have seem to have got a virus or something on our computer. I can't seem to find it or get it off. It has messed with our virus program and now it doesn't work all the way. Our computer still works but is slow at times and 100 thousand pop ups are always there. Anyone have any advice for a good program for pop ups, etc.

I have used Ad-Aware SE personal (is free of charge) for a while and it works pretty well for me . I used a Trend Micro subscription every year for all the protection.
Try AD Aware and the computer should speed up some .

Try this free virus scan/fix. It took care of a virus I picked up about a month ago that my regular antivirus software couldn't fix.

Angela,
First thing I would do is be sure you have a virus...

You can scan your computer free at...
http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/home_homeoffice/index_virus.html

It'll identify the virus and tell you how to remove it.

Once you know what it is you are dealing with you can find the best way to remove it.

Hi Angela
Try spybot search and destroy
Download the program (its free)
Start the program and search for updates to make sure your current
Check for problems
Fix selected problems
Then there is a immunize button, use that
I had spy ware that would always come up every time I would scan, until I used the immunize feature. Don’t ever get them now. In fact after I run ad aware I will run spybot and it very rarely finds anything. When you get new updates immunize again.

Angela,
Marie, Al, and Liz all gave you excellent virus scanner links. All of them work well, with Al's probably being the best. I doubt seriously that you have a virus though. Get an adaware product since that is the most likely culprit. ETR63's is a good one, but there are many others that are good too. Try to find at least 3 of them since they all use different definitions. Since I know you have an MS Operating System, Microsoft's version is excellent and is also free and is the best place to start.

Angela, I think Larry is right, sounds more like spyware/adware than a true virus. I use spy-bot and adaware, both are good.

Larry, are you talking about the 30 day trial on Windows Live OneCare or is there another program out there by Windows?

i agree with the above, i also doubt its a virus...much more likely its mal-ware, ie a trojan

they can be nasty to get rid of; look for a trojan remover program

Angela,

This is a pretty decent trojan scanner, as Timbo makes a good point. There is a free version too!
