I'm getting tired of this. For the last 2 months (at least), my Outlook Express is getting flooded with junk/spam emails. I phone Shaw who is our Internet provider, they said they were aware of the problem and to send all the spam to them. I have been doing this daily.

Well, just got home after being away and went to OE. 14 new messages and yep, all junk!! I've had enough.

So, either I can make a new email name on Shaw? or .....??? Would going to Mozilla and Thunderbird (which is their email provider) help all these problems?

Thanks all.:sun:

Hi Barb,

I use MailWasher... that way, I can read the email before downloading it to my computer, in case it contains a virus. I can also bounce the email back to the $$^%$$# that sent it, and clog their email up.

I've been using it for 3 or 4 years, and it does help cut down on some of it. Here's the link for the free download:

Thanks, Judi, I'll go take a look. :) It sure would be nice to send it back to them, clog their's up and see how they like it!

or you could try Hotmail (Microsoft); filters out most junk mail and automatically puts it in a separate folder for deletion (you dont download your email with hotmail, you read it from their server...added bonus if your harddrive fails, no lost emails); also it checks all downloads (pics, attachments) for virii

I have Outlook Express too that is combined with my SBC Yahoo so it does the same as Yahoo does when it comes to spam.

Only 14 a day, mmmm I'll swap now. A few years ago at work our now ex corporate ISP had a security breach, we get somewhere between 200 and 300 spams a minute! we have a dedicated spam filter server, using Canit, excellent product, but its server based! I get around a 120 spam emails a day on my private account, my ISP has spam assasin which is another good server based prog. I still use a s/w spam filter on my pc's, symantec on my laptop and kaspersky on my pc. Both work well enough.

The real solution is to find the spammers and cut their you know whats off, then hang the spammer from the tallest tree by whats left!!!:flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame:

Okay, I won't complain about my 14 I received. I thought I had it bad but not compared to what you've got going, Paul!

I get a little bit miffed about spam, it was quite funny when I set the new deal with a new ISP. I told em we got a lot, they said no problem. When we switched over we killed their spam filter, they had to build one just for me!! I did tell em!!:D :D

Mind if I get my hands on the towrags that do it......

Maybe I shouldn't bring this up, but most ISP actually have lists of approved spammers that they allow to spam you at will. Even AOL, Yahoo, and probably MSN and all the others.

How do I know??? Well, ummm ... my stepson is a spammer. Makes several hundred K a year sending out about 4 million e-mails a day. Every time someone opens one, he gets a commission. He just got approved by Yahoo but says AOL is the spammers goldmine

Don't tell anyone :p

PS.. Paul, ain't giving up no names LOL

Yep, for a while, we were getting 40-50 a day but with sbc, they all went to bulk and could be deleted easily. Still a hastle though. We just switched to new ISP and have new emails but it is only a matter of time before they find you

Hey Randal,

First thing I thought when he told us was he was gonna end up in jail :( Turns out, it's completely legit  He sends out ads for actual companies and the companies pay him for every e-mail that's opened... I keep dropping hints, but he hasn't cut me in yet

Not sure what name he's using these days, or where he's living... out of your jurisdiction I'm sure :D Besides, I'd like to stay married :p

.....THE OTHER HALF is with him, boy do I want that job! Several K sitting on his rear end with air conditioning!

BTW, if his doing this in a legitimate way (even if he wasn't) through the big companies, he's actually pretty easy to find if you know how or really wanted to. Better keep his Identity hidden!

I honestly can't understand how anyone would open an e-mail from someone or at least a website they know and trust. I go right down the list deleting anything from anyone I don't know... probably some from people I do know but don't recognized their e-mail address in time :p God knows how may free trips to paradise, sex, and prize money I've literally walked away from by doing this, but I'm to paranoid about virus's so "delete" they go :)

Obviously, however, there are people who actually do open e-mails with intruiging titles or from addresses

With AOL, and probably others, if you complain about a spammer 4 times, they ban them for life so if you're willing to go through all that trouble... you'll nail the bastards.. hahahaha
