Yes, don't!

Replace it with other biomedia, no need for carbon with the amount of w/c's that are normal in keeping discus.

Btw welcome to Simply :bandana:

I've not much experience of filters with biowheels, but even with these there is no need for carbon to be used on a permanent basis in a discus tank.

Oh and also welcome to Simply :bandana:

Hmmmmm I seem to be having a rather detrimental efect on Paul who has excellent information but now seems to to emulating my posts.
Your bio-wheel has absolulutely nothing to do with carbon. You may use carbon or not, the choice is yours. Carbon WILL remove many nasty things but water changes will too and are a FAR better choice. Our mantra on SD is water changes, water changes, water changes , and still more water changes. This will result in the happiest, healthiest dicus. Never rely on activated carbon or ion exchange resins over water changes. Water changes fix almost all problems.

Use Carbon only when you want to remove medications from your tank

Hey smileyvict (what IS your name?) how do you like your FX5? I have one on my 180g and was wondering what you think of yours? Any twists on how you set it up, etc?
Best regards
