Hi All,
I'm prepairing to biuld another tank stand. This one is for a 5.5 gallon tank.
Here is a computer rendering of what I am planning.

So what do you think?

I like the design, good job. Where are you in Milwaukee? I'm located in Bayview......Bob

Hi rlong-

I luv your stuff, very unique. Use of burled wood, etc. The only input I would say is cut back the sides a a bit so as not to obstruct the view. On such a small tank, I wouldn't want any of the viewing area to have wood over it. Just a thought.

Good luck,
Lisa

the top piece would appear to be a light strip so it should lift up

Hi,
Yes, the light will be on a slide.

I plan on making some changes/additions, so more rendering to come.

So what do you think?

I think you've got a great eye for design. It's one of the things that separates truly good carpenters, from mediocre carpenters. It takes a lot more skill and heart to nicely design and build a project vs. simply building.

Nice... will the piece of wood under the tank hold the entire weight of the tank? Or is there supports under there that are not shown in the picture? Just wondering...

The light slides back out of the way for maintainence.

Hi,
Well the project is complete.

Here is a view of the back
http://randylong.name/images/fish/5G-Stand-006.jpg

I installed an A.H. Supply 18 watt compact light with reflector. There is plenty of room around the reflector to disperse heat and the transformer is held away from the wood by washer spacers. Notice I also put in a vent whole also.

That looks really neat. You wouldn't even think there was a drawer there.

Great Job!!

What is your wood? Walnut? Cherry? Another woodworker here and looks very nice!

Hi 12Discus,
This stand is made from solid Walnut.

I have another in the works, same design but for a 10 gallon that will be Cherry.
