After feeding I forgot to put the frozen blood worm pack back in the freezer. It was out for about an hour and thawed out... is it OK to refreeze or do I need to pitch them?

Don't you just hate that! Left half a pound out for much longer and threw them away :(

Safest bet is to chuck em, but if they're still mostly frozen it's a decsion call on your part.

BW are cheap compared to Discus

I'd throw them out, why take the chance?

For that amount of time, I would (and have) refreeze them.

Put them in a cup of water and put it in the frig. You should be good to go on your next feeding. Then you can toss the rest or keep feeding out of the cup.

I have re-froze them on more than one occasion and never had any problems.

Refreeze them unless they completely thawed out. Ive done it a couple times at least. :)

I did that once too. And posted.. and was told it would be safer to throw them out. So I did. :)

Amber,

For that short of time, there should be no problem.

I agree with the refreeze group. I wen't through the same thing first time it happened. Everyone said toss 'em, so I did. But after thinking it over it just doesn't make sense that they could become questionable that quickly. It's common practice for foods to be thawed and refrozen for a number of reasons, so just because it was an accident doesn't mean it's no good afterwards as long as it's within a reasonable amount of time of course.

So long as they're still COLD I'd agree, and admit to doing once myself. The last half pound I left out I didn't discover till feeding time the next morning, and there was no question about those :p

Yeah, if still cold, freeze 'em, but if you leave them in your car (who, me?) and they get quite warm ( and stink your car up) then toss 'em. :o

Thanks for the replies. ya they weren't out long just long enough to thaw. I'll try refreezing cuz it was a big boxwith several packs in it :flame:

guess i should learn to take one pack out at a time:idea:

You're fine if you refreeze. They just need to be cool - refigerator cold.

My cousin left it out for over a day. I was gone for the week, so he took care of caring my tanks. Unfortunately, not only did he leave the FBW out, but also my frozen mysis shrimp, and Beefheart. I did refreeze it, but when I took it out the next day, they didn't look good, so I just trashed them. Luckily, I was able to pick more up from Bill. :)

Thanks again Bill :)
