Does anyone keep black neons with their Discus??

I have the red ones and they are so nice, I would like to add 5 of the black ones also.

Are they as hardy as the red ones??

I have black neons in a bolivian ram tank (pH 6.5, temp 82.5 F) and they are doing well. They look very nice in a large group. Have not had them with discus. They grow to a nice size too.

If you MUST ;) house other fish with your discus, black neons are excellant. Your common neons aren't, however.

I am down to one black neon...he hangs with the rasboras. I personally like them better than the neon tetras.

What makes the black ones better?? Are they a stronger fish??

I believe they are more tolerant of the warmer water temp. than the regular neon tetras.

cardinals are best...or rummy noses.

I've had a school of black neons in one of my angel tanks for a little over a year. I was not that excited about them at first, but they grow on you. They are very hardy (have not lost one yet). They also get fatter than cardinals or rummy-nose (which makes them harder to swallow).

I just picked up 6 black neons yesterday. Very cool fish.

How hard are they to breed?

Palue,

Black neons are more suited for the lower pH and higher temps that discus require.
