Hey all,
I just was looking at my brother's tank and one of his royal reds is acting strange. He seems to have his nose pointed at 45 degrees down, he's constantly "swimming" yet not moving. He doesn't look so how. The other six discus in the tank are completely fine, eating and acting normally. Any thoughts on the problem or cause. He's got an airstone going right now and the temp is between 88 and 90.
thanks.

Sounds like headstanding.

Do a search...there are a few good threads. Most have not had any luck with headstanders recovering.

Look for a thread by "Jeep"...I believe he used Metronidazole to treat.

PS: Temp seems a bit high to me...especially if it is bacterial related. The higher the temp, the faster the bacteria may reproduce. There is some suggestion that headstanding may be due to bacterial infections.

I have not had any firsthand experience. Sorry!
