Hello all well I have a 55 gallon tank with five Discuss in it, and four cory cats. Well the other day I found eggs on a peace of drifwood and I had two discuss cleaning them and takeing care of them. Well after two days the eggs are gone! and then the next day there where more eggs and then again two days the eggs gone. I also have a few ghost shrimp in the tank to help eat alge would these shrimp eat fish eggs or are the parents eatting them? Please some help.
Thanks again

Sit in front of your tanks and isolate the pairs...Then move them into a breeding tank. Make sure your water parameters are in check then just wait.

Could be the parents or could be the other inhabitants. Move the pair to a breeder tank like Dan says and give them a chance.

What size would be a good breeder tank I have a 10 gallon set up now with only a corycat in is would this be a good size?

A 29 gal would be the best. Some use 20 gal's though. A 10 gal is to small.

I have mine in a 30 gal long...but it seems they still like to eat the eggs!!! Just ate another batch this morning. I guess I am going to have to become creative with a screen!

Hi Brian,
You need to make sure that what you have is a male and female before doing anything. If its 2 females, the eggs won't last long. Try and catch them spawning and make sure the male is fertilizing. I kept all my breeders in 29 gal. tanks and it worked great.

One more thing!! Make sure that all you have in the breeder tank is the pair...no corys..

Try something like this for the flower pot after they lay. Its plastic mesh tied together by thread and a piece of thread along the bottom under so it doesnt float up. I used it on a brick.

Should work even better on a round object than the brick.

Brian,
i would definatly be checking there not two females before you move them that's a pretty quick turn around between laying !

cheers

The plastic mesh is a great idea...much easier to use then the metal, Thanks!
