Two of my very first Discus were wild caught Greens, back in 1993. I really liked their looks. Your wilds look really nice and very healthy!

Thanks for the kind comments. I should be able to get some better shots once my new camera ( Canon Xti with a fast 17-55 lens ). As I shoot with no flash I need a shutter speed of around 1/25 with my current camera and this is too slow for a hand held shot of a moving fish.

I have never kept other discus before but what I notice about my wilds is that their mood changes rapidly. One day they all look good and the next day a couple of them could be looking down and showing their stripes. Not sure what it is but they have plenty of character !!

some more pictures. been playing with the settings a bit but I still cannot get a sharp enough picture with the shutter speeds that the camera is using.

I especially like the couple of RSG's. They are all very nice, very healthy looking discus. I wouldn't mind them swimming in one of my tanks.

Ed,

the greens are around 5" and I am assuming that they bare fully grown. Two of the browns are around 5 1/2" and the little on in the last set of pictures is probably around 3 1/2" so not quite fully grown yet.

I do a 50% WC three times a week. I find that if I miss even one change their eyes start to cloud over a little. The planted tank thing is really a lot more work than a BB tank I am finding out.

I feed tetra colour bits in the morning, FBW at midday and BH in the evening. They only started taking Tetra bits around three weeks ago and two of the greens still will not touch them. I also feed chopped shrimp, earthworms and brine shrimp every now and then. I also made my BH recipe but it clouds the water so badly that I rarely feed it.

Beautifu fish! I've always been attrreacted to the wilds; back in the early 70's it was all there was available.

What are your water parameters at home? Do you RO the water?

The water here in Houston is pretty hard.. around 300 ppm TDS but it varies. I use an RO system to bring it down around 120 ppm.

A bigger challenge in the PH. After aging the RO mix, the PH settles at around 8.2. The alkalinity is really high and I have not had success lowering it with peat.
