Hello. I am about to get back into the hobby after about a decade. My big problem is my tap water. I live in Central New Jersey. Hardness and ph are good. However there is alot of amonia and nitrate in the water. I know reomiving amonia is easy, but is there any product out there that will reduce/remove nitrate from the water? I want to avoid using RO or DI water if possible. Thanks.

Hi Richard,

Welcome to Simply. :)

Using a product like Prime should take care of your ammonia and nitrate problems.

It is not unheard of to have ammonia and nitrate in your tap. However, I would also make sure you are using an accurate test kit. If yours is older than 6 months you may want to buy a new one.

Just how high are they....say under 40ppm it's of no major concern.

There are products out there but it might be cheaper buying and RO unit

If your water has problem then give them largest water change more than 80%, I would like to give them 90% water change , that would best bet to help to solve problems!

otherwise the new filters are not ready full seasoned!

The prime is the best stuff !
