Hi all,
Been asking myself what are the benefits/factors behind painted discus tank? Is this merely for aesthetic purposes or does this make the discus feel safer and at home?

I can relate a recent experience. Whn I arrived home with my six recently purchased LPS discus, they were in a tank by a north facing window and were huddled in the corner terrified. I had some aquarium backing that I put on the window side and almost immediately they settled down. I do think that for new fish the sealing off of one side of the tank helps. For fish accustomed to their setting, however, I doubt if it makes much difference. Now, the aesthetic question is a different story. Recently I saw a dimensional backing in a picture that made the fish seem to be in an elaborately planted tank, when they were actually in a BB one. A well designed backing can enhance the watching experience for viewers.
