Short aqaurium

Hello all, I was wondering if a 12" tall tank would be OK as a growout tank. I saw in an area newspaper that someone was selling their 120 gallon acrylic tanks that measure 8 feet long, 2 feet wide and 1 foot tall. 2 of them for $275. Would this tank be OK for growing out fry to around 3-4 inches or would a taller tank work better ?? Thanks for any input.

I think a 12 inch tall tank is not preferred--but it looks like a good deal. It would probably be ok.
