I noticed that my bio-wheel doesnt spin when i have a sponge cartridge in the filter. I took it out and the wheel turned. Any thoughts on how to handle this? I may just need to replace the sponge filter as it may be slowing the outflow down also.

Is the sponge clogged....the wheel needs a certain flow rate to spin

Easy... just clean it...

Take a few cups out of your tank and in to a bucket. Then shake and lightly squeeze the sponge in the bucket to loosen up some dirt. Finaly put it abck in your filter.

Should work like new, but still have bacteria

Could be you filter need to be cleaned out? Water flow could be slow? Or you have some missing parts?

I have the same problem. I have a Penquin 100 on a ten g. It never spins even without a filter. I have 5 of the 150's. They spin fine with new filters but if I add floss between the filters it slows down and eventualy stops untill I clean the filters and floss then it's fine for a week or two. Don T.

I'll clean the entire filter today and see if this helps. Ammonia is still zero though.
