I'm fond of emperor filters, but I am in the process of eliminating carbon from my aquariums. The filter pads(containing carbon) for the emperor are enclosed. What is a good replacement pad that either contains no carbon or can be opened and the carbon can be removed/replaced? This is my first posting - Hi to everyone.

Welcome!

I don't use padding at all.

I have the Emperor 400 bio wheel and I love it. My water parameters have stayed excellent. I simply took a razor blade and made a cut across the bottom of the filter pad and shook out the carbon - carbonless filter pad! It has been working great - I rinse them off several times a week. I am not sure how long I can continue rinsing before replacing - maybe someone else has had them longer. HTHs
