OMG I just realized it's been six weeks since my old friend Kenny and my new friend Louis sent me 4 discuses! And I don't have any pictures to share! Yikes! So without further notice I'm starting this thread to share with you my frightening experience! :D:D

It's been 6 weeks QT over! Yea! :) Where are the pics?

take care,
Sandeep

Here's my QT setup - It's a 20 gallon....I set it up just for Kenny's fish with PP treat followed by bleach! That overflow pipe is 1 1/4" OD so you can judge how big these fish were when they arrived.

Umm, I'm sorry guyz I actually haven't taken the current pics yet :).....I just realized that it's been 6 weeks so I started this thread. Please be patient, I'm quite fortunate to receive these fish and I do want to share them with all of you.

I can promise you that there will be many pics and so you don't have to keep checking this thread, I'll change the title everytime I post :)...I'm not really trying to get a high hit count, I just thought that If I didn't start the thread, I might be too lazy to take the pics ;)

Hey Marie:

If u really wanna know my 3 yr old son want's to see chickens and turkeys and cows on Google images :), so that's what I'm doing right now. But, besides that I have to clean the tank, setup the lighting, get my fish dressed up! It's not easy ;)

This is not meant to be mean but guyz please refrain from posting on this thread atleast until I've posted all the pics otherwise I'll have to start a new thread! I guess I should have known before starting it that this would happen. Oh well!

Dear Al:

Now I know why ur our leader! You always have these great ideas :).....The first week I wish I had left them in the bag, man they were so jumpy and everyone was swarming around the tanks to check out the new fish and when I changed the water they wanted to leap out of the tank, crawl through the overflow, swim upsidedown and come to think of it it's so much easier taking pics when they are in the bag :)

Hi Marie:

There will definately be pics without flash but first can you see what bro Dale has been saying? which is what got me interested in albinos in the first place:

Thanks for the well wishes and feedback Sandeep, really appreciate your feedback =)

As of the Albino, I guess I'm attracted to the shine they exude. As Albinos, they do carry an iridescent sheen on their colorations. This is caused by the Spread Iridocytes (SI) which exists much more in albino organisms and animals. However, in the more common 'golden' or alenquer (brown) albino strains, colours are boring as they only possess the yellow base colour, couple with abit of striations here and there, just like the brown discus is to many hobbyists now.

With the addition of the albino form to strains which already possess so much of colour, I find an altogether new spectrum of colorations to the discus fish. dark colours are dissipated into various shades of pale, of pastel and shine. A normal blue turquoise would seem to be possessing much more than a brilliant blue, but also of pastel white shine coupled with pink, yellow, purple and even a red over-tone. This gives the fish a very clean, neat and "angelic" appearance, as compared to their deeper coloured counterparts. It might be in my mind only, but the coloration surely adds more glow and an angelic aura to the discus fish.

The Albinism would result in a much paler fish, but this doesnt quite mean it lacks colour. In fact, the spectrum of colour available to our eye after the melanin (black) pigmentation is removed by albinism gives the discus fish another new dimension of colours we have never experimented with in conventional strains derived from wild fish.

The Albino blue diamond, another strain i'm currently working on, is displaying sheens of green, blue, pink and yellow all at once! and they seem to be carrying a gold-ish shiny base colouration too.

It is still my hope to improve the albino strain, and in particular, the albino spotted strains, further.

thanks,
Sandeep

Something i've always wondered about the albino white eruption.. would it turn out to be spots or red patches? Eruption connotates spots. Who's the creator of this fish?

Anyway, the fish are looking great, Sandeep! I am taking a deep attraction to anything albino!

At Aquarama, we saw Albino Arowanas.. and they cost a whooping US40k per piece!

Hi Dale:

These are Wayne NG's AWEs.....Digital cameras especially with jpeg compression tend to merge spots and in the case of the AWEs they are more dots than spots so the "merging effect" is greater! If you look at the scales closely there isn't a continuous color like in the Red/White. Also typical of digital cameras is that the tend to enhance the "red" when in fact the color is much lighter more "pinkish" :)

If you can post a pic of the "Albino Asian Red Aro" I think it's not illigal to post pics in the USA :) and that I would like to see!

Sandeep

i was just wondering how long it would take to actually refine the Albino White Eruption, which would otherwise be genetically known as the Albino White Leopardsnake. The thing is.. even in the non-albino White LSS, it takes 2-3 generations before the red patch becomes spots. It would be nice if the Albino White Eruption is actually individual spots on a white base.

I didn't manage to take a clear picture of the Albino Crossback Gold Arowana at the Aquarama as they were just hyperactive!.. but i hope this photo suffices.

Sandeep, what an awesome job you've done in raising the RPWE's  and that's without feeding BH right? Your effort is paying off nicely...

Let me guess, in the FIRST picture:

-the fish on the left with a lighter red color tone is a male.(75% accuracy:p)
-the fish in the middle is a female.(90% accuracy:))
-the fish on the right is probably a male but I'm really not so sure...a better pic of him/her might help here.(so 50.1 % accuracy only lol:D)

Sandeep I'm quite sure you have both female and male combination in this group of yours...now let's go breed them, soon.

Keep up the great work my friend!

Kenny
p.s. what did you do to little brother? He's not allowed to be shown in the spotlight?:D Or did you send him to Dan instead of me?

Hmm Kenny:

How could you? :( The fish in the 1st pick in the Middle is little brother! In fact, he is in every pic except one! I do have another Lil Sister, be patient, I'll be posting more pics soon ;) AND, I'm really confused what this RPWEi means? I think for sure these are some cross like perhaps RPRGDWERWXYZ? ;) Can't we just call them Pigeons??? Or Pigeon Intermediates? Pi's ?? :) You know my paypal address buddy! :)

take care,
Sandeep

Thanks for your comments. That rock you see is from my broken down reef tank that was lying out on the balcony for years! It's old live rock.

Hi Marie:

How are you? I'm glad you like the pics! It's an old Canon 10D with a 50mm lens. I'm not all that happy with these pics, it's very hard to take pics of fish without color or contrast! But, I'll try to do better in the next few days! As far as your question about what they will look like as adults I think there are some pics of them in the thread that has Wayne's new farm pics! Of course, he's the master so it's unlikely that mine will ever look that good!

Hi Brian:

Thanks for you comments. Whenever I look at these fish I am amazed how far along discus hobbiests have come in developing the King. I have some very nice yellow whites and I can see the difference the albinism makes. There is almost a creaminess in the color (which is hard to show in the pics) that I love very much!

Hi Hans? :)

Are you our 3rd Hans? :) After a while you realize that there's only so much we can do as hobbiests and the biggest factor in having pretty fish is the breeder and all those hands the fish goes through before it arrives at our door. I hadn't bought fish for years and then finally the Wayne/Kenny combination happenned. It was like hitting the jackpot :).....Let's hope it happens again!, maybe in 2009! It would be nice if the ticket was only $1 though ;)

Hi Suranga:

Thanks for your msg! I do spend a lot of time watching these fish. Sometimes I think they need "affection". Hmm, a fish needing affection? What do you think? If Big Brother does produce fry ur welcome to come get some!

Hi Patrick:

Thanks for your comment. I'm very pleased with these albinos....they seem to be strong and agressive and with good eyesight....lets see if they can succeed in breeding, it's mostly upto them :)...In the mean time I am fortunate to experience the beauty of albinos in my own tank! Thanks to all you albino discus breeders out there for bringing us this strain! Must be a lot of hard work!
