could you tell me if there are brands of aquariums that have no balck silicone
and that the black plastic rim isnt visible for the fishes??

I try to breed white butterflies but the babies stick on the black rim.

My All Glass fish tanks have clear silicone, but if you want to get away from any type of black you need to get a acrylic fish tank.

grelot, my All Glass tanks have clear silicone and my Oceanic 30 gallon cubes have black edges . I used quick cure recently on one of my 75 tanks and it turned the seams blue . Today i was talking to a pet shop owner and he told me manufacturers are going to a black silicone tank.
I think I would like that better so it does not stain. I have never had any problems with the black edges on my Oceanics 30 gallon cube breeder tanks.

All-Glass, Oceanic (same company) and Perfecto can all be bought with either black or clear silicone.

Or a custom made rimless glass tank, which are more expensive but a million times more beautiful!

You could always get a reg tank remove the top plastic rim(not the bottom) and glue glass braces or Euro brace the tank, but it will void the warranty;) and if done incorrectly you'll make a horrible mess and its not as easy to remove the rim without potential damage(mainly chipping and scratching the tank)

Not only are manufacturers more incline to go to black silicone, but wood grain tanks and stands are out of luck too, oak and black are the winners

No, rimless tanks are free of aything other than the build material, manufactured rim bearing tanks like Perfecto and AGA are assembled different, thats why they need bracing
example of a pvc bottom(could not find a 5 glass pane tank), 3 side starphire (low iron glass clearer than reg glass)

If all you need are breeding or growout tanks you could build them out of glass, acrylic or even plywood with a two part epoxy seal, none of these will have any dark color

If you are very careful, you can remove the black trim around the bottom and then paint the bottom and a couple of inches up the sides of the tank. Then, after you put the bottom brace back on, it does not show.

Yes it's a pain, but I've done it and I'm no genius. Go to the hardware store get a utility knife and a bunch of razor blades. Go slowly. Be careful.

You can also use a small putty knife. Rock it side to side as you push it in along the edge and slowly work your way all around the tank. You should do it all along the sides of the tank and all along the bottom. If you are careful, it will work.

I forgot about the putty knife. It was a valuable tool.
