Yes I would do a w/c. Also I would cycle the tank using pure ammonia then no fish need suffer. If you keep the fish in there add salt at 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons to mitigate the nitrite.

Not Table Salt!!!

You can use the Aquarium salt sold at Pet Smart...I use Solar salt sold at Publix or Home Depot...The Rock salt sold in blue or white bags...

Does it say 100% Sodium chloride? I beleive this is what Dan was reffering to, but wait for confirmation.

Anyways, I may be the most conservative(read paranoid:crazy:) on the board when it comes to discus, but I would just return the goldfish(:p) bleach everything and start again the cycle with the fishless method or just do 90%-100% until the filter can keep up with the nutrients. I'm not telling you this is what YOU should do, actually, do the large water changes anyway, of course with heated aged water!
I don't think it's worth the risk cycling with fish and certainly not goldfish!
Sorry, it's just me!

ANY salt will do provided there is no anti caking agent in it. I use cheap cooking salt.
