View Full Version : Discus pair - worth putting in separate tank

I have had 2 discus from my display tank pair up about a month or so ago. They have laid eggs 4/5 times now but all get eaten after the 2nd night. They are getting better at attending the clutch though compared to the first spawn.

1) Is it worth putting them in a 33 gal I have set up and see what happens?

2) What color etc. do you think this pairing might produce. I was hoping the 2 Red turks would pair but I guess not. Female Red Turk/Male?

I have a similar pair ... Instead of pigeon blood, the female is a solid orange/red Marlboro. The male is exactly like yours. My female laid eggs a few times already but the male kept eating the eggs ... I think I am going to give up on this pair as I am afraid that the frys might have lots of pepper. I am going to try to force a pair with a snow white male and the orange/red Marlboro.

If you want to try to breed, you definitely need to get them into a breeding tank. Good luck.

I'd put them in a tank of their own and then be very patient and let them practice. As already mentioned, pigeons and non-pigeons don't usually make good pairings as the fry tend to be very peppered. There are exceptions tho. But if you plan on doing some breeding in the future it will be good practice.
