Take a look at these videos, does it seem like they are pairing up or are they just cranky? :D One of them has staked out a place by the AC intake and doesn't want to let anyone else near it.

Looks like the fish near the filter has staked out the area as a breeding site. Not sure who is its mate but definitely not the striated one. Maybe the other blue fish that is pushing around the striated one.

Thanks Dan. The fish near the filter definitely wants that space, it didn't even really want to let me clean the prefilter last night at water change time. :) Would it be assumed then that the one that's staked out it's territory is probably female? The striated one is probably just being a bully. :) Fun to watch the battles none the less. I figure they're about 9-10 months old so.

Not sure if that one is a female but most likely could be...Watch to see if it lays eggs...9 - 10 Months is still early so be patient.

I'd say its just aggression during feeding time. I didnt notice any pairing behavior. Those are piles of worms right?

I don't see any paring behavior either ~ are those cbw? Mine would def be aggressive over them!:D

Nice fish, Karen!

I'm in no hurry for them to pair up, was just wondering, so thought I'd check with the "experts". Yes, CBW they are.

Thanks Marie. :)

Karen,
Pretty dificult for me to tell from your movies, but it looks to me as though the SS and BD are forming a pair bond. btw very nice markings on that SS

They're actually all SS, but some are rather lacking in the markings dept. There is just the one that's actually well patterned for whatever reason. Of course that won't be the one that pairs up knowing my luck! :)

Marie and Miksucs,

I love this forum because we all see different things...I never even noticed the worms the first time I viewed the film...I still think that the one near the lift tube is staking out turf as a possible breeding site...:D

Yeah, same here. The first movie looked to me like there could be a pair in the right corner - the way they both came out charging at the snakeskin when it got too close looked like a coordinated effort.

The second movie looked like the snakeskin was pairing with the other one. Notice at the end of the movie, she gives him a nudge - a feeding-time fight is usually open mouth.

You really need to sit down and watch them over time for about 15-30 minutes per, but in just those short clips, you might have 2 pair in there! All four are georgeous fish too!

Karen, for sure they are showing pairing behavior in that tank of yours. I suspect the 2 fish in your first video that were going at each other near the sponge are of the same sex(but not 100% sure). Keep in mind that sometimes even confirmed pairs will push each other here and there to get their attention. Just be patient with them and when the time comes their breeding tubes will become visible to you.:p

Enjoy!
