I've been having water issues lately so tonight I decided to try PP. The fish seem to be feeling really well after the treatment. Here are some pictures during the tank refill. I still have 5 of my original pigeons from Forrest/Dan that I received in July of 2006. The rest of the fish came from Al a couple months ago. They include an Alencer female, a turk female, a PB male, a small wild heckel, a domestic heckel cross that came from Kenny, and two Ocean Green x White Butterflies that were originally owned by Matt (aquaticplantman here on the forum).

PS - The color on the first picture is different because I didn't use flash. The rest all have flash in them. Note that the turk appears really blue under fluorescent aquarium lighting, but almost green in the camera flash. :D

The Discus are beautiful, Ryan. And I love the Festivums, had one many years ago, it used to jump out of the water to get its food from my hands and was very protective of other fish that my Jewel Cichlid tried to bully, a very interesting fish.

I think that the picture without the flash tells the true colors as we see them.:) Great pictures and fish Ryan!

Thanks for sharing,

The festivums are really closely related to angelfish and they remind me a lot of angels. They are curious, voracious eaters, and like to annoy the larger discus just because they can :D Connie, I've noticed the same thing you have. They tend to want to jump. Mine actually jump out of the water to try and eat stuff off the bottom lip of my Aquaclear filters. They also tend to crowd in the top corners when frightened, and jump when scared whereas most cichlids would dive to the bottom. They are really neat, though.

Looking great Ryan ;). Who is going in the 40 breeder?

Andrew, two of my original five pigeons. I'd like to see if I can get a successful spawn. I've never raised discus fry, but I'd like to try and see what the fry would look like if I crossed the siblings from this batch. Forrest says the parents are WB x Golden, so I could get any number of things from the cross. I have a few more combos that I can try if these two don't work out.

Here are the fish going into the 40 breeder:

The female is the second picture. I've never been really impressed by her shape. She's always been the smallest in the group. She is the most willing to spawn though, so we'll try her out for now. Ideally I'd like my nicely-shaped female to show an interest in breeding. She's got the best shape of the bunch, IMO:

Wow, Ryan, that's a really nice group of Discus you got there. I like those festivums as well, they are pretty sweet looking.

Ryan, I don't have a prob with the shape of any of the above. All have nice strong chins and are round. Strong chins on PBs are rare! You should get some WBs out of the mix. Several generations and you will be the man on WBs. Yours colored out nicely BTW. I hope you have success cuz I want a few ;). They would be a great cross with our BPs. Very nice Ryan and they mirror the work you put into them!

Thanks for the comments everybody. It's encouraging :)

Al, I now have 100% confirmation that the blue turk is a female. She was laying eggs tonight on the heater cord. Of course, the male PB and the female alencer went right behind her, eating all of them. She tried to spawn with both of them as they were going at it.

Did that male PB ever raise fry for you?

Ryan,
Thats great news! thanks for sexing that fish for me...you can pack it up now and send it back now:D:D:D

The PB never raised fry and I'm only "reasonably" sure that its male based on its attempted spawnings with females...... The alenquer has raised fry...

These fish look very perfect. I like the one with the big stripe in the middle.
Not the Heckel, but the one with a "Heckel look".
The pigeons look awesome too!!
Also nice to see that you Blue Diamonds got red eyes. That is difficult to get good ones over here
