I use andrew soh's method, is about 70 - 80% sucess rate for me.

this works for me....

with females the anal fin runs away from the tail fin
with males it runs nearly parallel to the tail fin

That would fit in with the usual cichlid thing about the males having elongated dorsal and anal fins. Sort of heading in that direction :)

I don't know if that always holds true. I have a male NT whose anal fin slopes away from the tail fin.

I don't think that's a real fool-proof technique.. Also, I know you mean the bottom fin, as the anal fins are the two fins in the front that hang down I believe ?? David

I've heard about that method before and I agree with David that it's not a fool-proof method especially when we have discus with different types of finnage these days. IME I myself used it as a guideline and sometimes when combined with other sexing method it could increase the chance of you being right when determining their sex.

I use this method and I'm usually correct. I only use the dorsal fin though. Other than that I agree 100% with Kenny.
