Hi Fishgirl,
first of all,i have to say that the camera(Canon) that i using has enhance a little bit color of the fishes by itself, but not PHOTO SHOP.

The Red Golden Diamond has been raised with pigheart/beefheart with astaxanthin added into their diet.

I was wondering, what makes u think that those fishes have been fed with carophyll pink? Does any part of body on the fishes that show the fishes has been colored with carophyll pink?are you aware of any special genetic trait difference between the Red Golden Diamond and other red fish? What about the intensity of red color between males and females of the RGDs?

By the way the reddest fish in the photo is a female Red Golden Diamond.

here is a pic that i just took today after about 2 months recieved from my friend.

best rgds,
forrest.

Fishgirl,

I agree with Forrest...Red Golden Diamonds when feed with astaxanthin in there diet along with shrimp will turn very red. Additionally, as Forrest mentions the red coloration on females are more intensely red. Here are some of my RGD fish that are only fed with LCBW, FBW and a Seafood mix with Beef and astaxanthin once per day. I also believe these are the females. The fish are actually redder in person than in these pictures.

My question would be, why does a 21 post "Fishgirl" make such ignorant statments about a breeder we have bought so many excellent fish from over the years???

I dont know what fishgirl is trying to imply, but I have to say that these fish are just magnificent. They might just get me to start another big tank just for them if and when they become available. All the best Forrest! mike:)

What is the difference between these guys compared to a Rose Red or Red Clover?

seanyuki
02-23-2009, 10:32 AM
Hi Renee,

My guess are

1.Red Golden Diamonds got golden base genes & when stressed no bars in the body.
2.Rose Red got brown base genes and has bars in the body.....San Merah is an improved version & no bars in the body even when stressed..
3.Red Cover got pigeons base genes & stressed got peppering in it's body.

Cheers
Francis:)

I think the idea is to breed out the black peppering. The 3Rs I purchased were golden based and not PB. Its the main reason I would like to breed the royal ruby reds instead of the tangerines I have atm.
