I just placed an order at Jehmco. I decided to get a 5 pound container of ClorAm-X and give it a try. There isn't a lot of info on it. What are everyone's experiences with this product? What have you heard about it?

Thanks

I just ordered the one gallon, It should be arriving tomorrow. I shall be posting my experiences in a short while. However, I think everyones results will differ because water paramaters vary in various parts of the country.

Just curious... Why ClorAm-X? From the description at Jehmco, 5lbs for $35+ shipping treats 18,794 gallons, while 2 liters of Pond Prime for $26.99+ shipping at That Pet Place will treat 40,000 gallons...

Maybe some people have different results in different parts of the country, and I know Pond Prime is the same thing as Prime, but with the aging we do with our water, I have always used Prime at the PP dose with no ill effects... Maybe you could use less ClorAm-X at a reduced dose also??

Used it for a long time with good results.
My kH is really low and ClorAm lowers my ph quickly if I don't buffer a little.
I use some seachem reef builder to maintain pH.

Sounds like I made a good choice.

ClhorAm-X is merely Amquel Plus in powdered form, so it's good stuff. Having used both I would have to agree with Brian, Prime is cheaper if you shop around.

I've used it occasionally for a little bit and haven't seen any difference in performance as compared to Prime. But, I age my water and don't have chloramines so I rarely use it at all, just have it there incase I need to do a WC with unaged water or something. But, all in all, good stuff. :)

I've been useing Cloram-x for 2+ years and it works great. Here's something I've noticed though. If you put it in your barrells BEFORE you age the water the barrels tend to "scum-up" quicker. I put it in just before i'm ready to fill the tanks.

I think ageing clorenated water helps to keep the barrell clean. The Cloram-x seems to work almost instantly anyway. Rich

Ditto what Rich said!
My main reason for using it--no sulfur smell!!

I'm a little confused also. The instructions on the back of the container didn't help me much.

Ok, good, thanks Dennis. I will probably go with the Pond Prime too like jeep and rick said. In my case (50gal) is one capful 5ml.

ClorAm-X dosage is 1/4 tsp per 10 gallons.

I use 3 gram for every 100 liter.

From the label: 1.207 gram or 0.043 oz for 10 gallon

Maybe this can help:

What do you use to weigh such a small amount? If I did a 50% wc, I would need to treat 60 gals. 0.043oz. x 6 = 0.258oz. Is there a way to turn that weight into a volume? e.g. 1 gram = half a tablespoon or something like that. (does that even make sense) Does everyone weigh this out to use it?

I weight it but just to be sure I put in enough, as far as I know you can't over dose.

I use it at shows to, fill a tank (10 gallon) with local tap water, trow 1 tea spoon (is to much) open the bag and drop the Discus in the tank, never a problem,
