Is there a general rule with these? Is it a dominant gene? Is that where red-whites come from? I only have one and I am wondering if I should let it breed. Depending on its sex it could have a variety of partners from solid blue, stripped, snakeskin, pigeon, white butterfly, brown based red. What do you think?

Snow white is controlled by a dominant gene, and yes you are right in thinking red/white comes from the snow white. Lets say you crossed your red/brown with snow white (not a bad cross actually) you will receive 100% red/white discus. 1st inbred generation you will receive snow white, red/brown, and red whites.

IME Like Rod said 100% red whites although you may have to use alot of colour enhancer to see it.

If you use a stronger gene fish for the red parent like a red PB, you will see varying degrees of co-dominance in the F1's.

Also if you use a SS for the cross, all the fry will be SS, barred or bar-less, ime all the snow whites I've bred had an SS gene in the mix.
