I have a 90 gallon that I just added 4 new 2.5" discus to. All of them are eating well except 1. It's an alenquer, I've had them in the tank since sunday and it still hasn't eaten yet. It's color is looking good and it swims around with the others.

My ph is 7.8, am is 0, ni is 0, na is less than 5. Temp at 86.

I feed them cyclopeeze (sp?), FBW, NLS and some flakes 3-4 times a day.

Any advice to get this little one eating would be great!

Please help! If you need any more info, please ask I will do my best to answer them for you.

Try and find some live food and raise the temp 2-3 degrees. Time may be all thats needed. Some take longer to settle in.

Thank you, I was thinking of also trying a little bit of fresh garlic.

Any comments on trying that?

I have read that some of the experts add garlic to beefheart mixtures to attract feeding. I havent done it but if I start making beefheart, I would give it a try.

Thta's a very large tank for those 4 little discus... too bad you couldn't afford 4 or 6 more as they do a lot better in schools. I know from experience now... They may feel kind of lost in there with so few fish... IMO David

Thanks David. I actually have 6 right now and I'm looking to get 3 more. Plus I have tetras and cories in there too.

As stated above I would just raise the temp to around 90...This will increase the metabolism of the fish. Also find out what the breeder was feeding and try that for a while.

Do you have a smaller tank, say 20- 30 gallons for the new juvies? Even the ones that are eating now may not grow quickly in the 90 gallon tank. Perhaps they expend too much energy swimming in the large tank.

If the news ones have to stay in the big tank, you might consider partitioning the tank with egg crate available at Home Depot or Lowe's. I'd keep the little ones in a 30 gallon or smaller partition until they are 3.5 - 4 inches, then they could roam without the partition.
