Regarding this discus u enquire,it was given to me by my friend when it was 2inches in size.
The parent of this discus were Leopard SnakeSkin,both were BullDog. Why the reason u see it's redish because most probaly it's a throwback from the earlier generation.. We name this discus in Singapore as BullDog Leopard SnakeSkin. BullDog Discus was once recognised as deformed by many here, but to some others it's always a beauty. In my opinion,if one were to breed high bodied discus this particular strain should be used in crossing..:)

Personally I like the Bulldog look as long as it doesn't effect as long as it doesn't get too extreme.On one side of the extreme there are beautiful tall and deep body fish (standing egg). On the other side we see smash faced discus with tails attached directly to head, LOL.
Yours is a beautifull example on the good side of the extreme.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with me.
You’re right and it is indeed quite a challenging task to try breeding bulldogs.
From my experiences, I’d not encountered males having difficulties in fertilizing the eggs but instead it was the females that had problems spawning.
In my opinion, the females face difficulties probably due to the construction and positioning of their spawning tubes. Though it is difficult to observe it with our naked eye, I deduced by looking at how the stools being passed out from their anus. It is very difficult to explain in writing and you may disagree with me on that.
However, this is what I experienced and observed and thus sharing what I know with you :)

Well as my friend Francis (seanyuki) just informed me, looks like Raymond Lee and Son captured some awards in Aquarama 2009!! :) Per Francis: Did you know that the little boy Xian Fu's dad won the Grand Discus Championship at Aquarama 2009.? Very cool, wish he had a discus distrubutor here in the states, can always use some new genes in the U.S. discus pool.

Best wishes to you, you have worked hard and earned any award your discus have won. Please let us see some pic's of the winning fish.

When did you first get involved in Discus? Any memories you want to share?

I remember when I visit my friend in 1995,at his own office,he have a gigantic fish tank .Inside the fish tank,there is a 24 inch red Arowna with six pieces of 3.5 inch turqoise.Seeing the Arowna chasing the discus,I pitied the discus,so i asked my friend whether the Arowna will attack the discus,my friend said:"If you worry about that,you can help bring all the discus home!"So I immediately packed them.Of course,on the way back I bought the fish tank,food,some fish medicine and necessary accessories to start my discus keeping.:balloon:

Do you have any other hobbies besides fish Keeping?

Don't have any other hobbies,just like to watch F1 racing.:balloon::balloon:

What other fish do you keep?

Other than discus,I keep Angelfish also because Xian Fu like it.:balloon::balloon::balloon:

Wahh, amazing! My favourite shot for the Golden Leopard Intermediates is this one because I like the blue base background colour and their shape is amazing as always.

For the Golden Leopard Snake Intermediates, I like this one best. The spots on the gill plate and the face is incredible, love the colours and shape. I guess the tank lights were just turned on as their iris tells me something lol.

I am relatively new to Discus and was interested in knowing for the Golden Leopard Snakes whether a diet supplement of some sort was key when growing our this strain to ensure that the spotting on the gill plates was achieved, or whether the full gill plate spotting is something that would have developed with or with out any specific diet supplement.

Also if some form of supplement was included in their diet to maximize the spotting as they were growing out, could you please explain what it was and at what stage of development should it be used.

I look forward to your response, (or any other Simply members), as I mention I am somewhat of a beginner to discus and am building up my knowledge base since I joined this forum.

I'm pretty sure its genetically based through selective breeding as explained in Andrew soh's book. I don't think the food/diet is involved here.

Diet can help the color of the fish therefore making the spots a bit more defined but the fish needs to have the genetic potential to achieve gill spotting. IMHO

In other words the fish you are looking at right now are not only high quality specimens genetically but are also in top condition thanks to the owners.

Oh!Golden Leopard Snakes also happen to be my favorite strain.Some breeders don't like it becausewhen they are fries,they are very weak to maintain especially the shape.
