I took a trip down to Houston over the weekend to visit Gulf Coast Discus. We had a great time and I didn't go home empty handed. :)

These guys love to eat. They were begging for food shortly after I got them in the tank.

Thanks again Dan. :)

Thanks everyone.

The last year has been pretty crazy with the move and career change.

It's good to be able to get things going again.

Mikscus:

The tank is a 105 tall. It has the same footprint as a 75 but is much taller so it doesn't take up as much floor space. IMO, it's the perfect Discus tank. :)

Hi Terry,

I believe Red Mosaic is the name de jour for this strain. :)

I'm just calling them spotted red turqs but I'm kinda old school. :o

Awesome.

I love the taller tanks too - they can be a pain to clean.

Yeah, and I'm not very tall either so I think I'm going to have to build scaffolding around the tank to do my maintenence. :(:embarassed:

A step stool and a cleaning brush make things fairly easy. I really like those Python cleaning mitts but they're not going to be very practical for this tank.

Ryan, Are they in a 65 gl. or a 90 gl. ?? I love the deeper tanks also.. I have two 90 gl.s ( among 4 other tanks) and my discus swim all over from top to bottom.. I especially love it when they are displaying to each other... They look like balloons floating up and down :9) Good luck with your beautiful fish !! David T

It's actually a 105 tall made by Oceanic Systems. I got a really good deal on a gently used one.:)

They look great Ryan. It was nice meeting you and your wife. You guys are good people. I need to talk to you regarding the toy you brought with you. :) Forgot the name.

Thank you my friend.

Dan described the mosaics as "b-grade" leopards. I assume because the spotting isn't as pronounced and they have striations as well.

I really couldn't care less. I pick fish by the quality of body shape, finnage, and eyes and not by markings anyway. :)

Some calls them spotted turqs. I believe this is a cross between a Leopard and a Turq.

Well it's been two months so I thought I'd post an update. :)

All are doing great. They're ravenous eaters! Every time I feed them I get soaking wet. I've been pleased with their growth so far and I should have several very nice (and very large fish) from this group.

I'm not very good behind a camera but hopefully you'll get the idea.:o

This fish has really intrigued me. Aside from some slight imperfections on the forehead in front of the eye, I think it has great shape and lots of potential. I believe this fish is a male and has lots of coloring up to do. I'm excited to see what it will look like in six months.

Ryan, thanks for the up-date but hate to tell you that this group is a total waste of food and water (if you are changing any more than once a month) ?? Only advice I can offer is send them to zip code 74429 Attn: Green Country Discus :D:D.

Really Ryan, they look great, and show the quality you started with and the outstanding care you are providing! If you get tired of them see above!!

Thanks for sharing the up-date!
