of the food that we provide 25 %

I suppose what I'm asking is;

To say in the wild, they get 25% of what we feed is "Total guesstimate"

Where did you get to know, the ammount and calorific value of an averge days browsing in the amazon?

Facts not fiction would assist.;)

Cheers, Mick B:)

Any kind of fish in the wild feeds all day long and gets a much more balanced diet than we generally feed them. They are surrounded by food, where as we feed a few times a day.

Half of what's in the food we feed isn't digestible, it's either fillers or something that they can't process and it isn't pure protein by a long shot.

Look at the analysis on the package of frozen food. Most are 90% or more water. You would think that you are feeding your fish well by using frozen but to have a well ballanced diet they need some prepaired food in captivity. Don T.

OK. EVERYBODY SAYS DON T FEED TO OFTEN . ONLY DISCUS PEOPLE ARE SAYING TO FEED 5 TIMES A DAY . IT JUST A FISH. EVERYBODI IS DESPERATE TO OUTGROW THEYR FISH. PUT THEM ON STEROIDS THEN

All capitive fish should be fed a number of times per day with a balanced diet and as Don pointed out frozen foods are not....we couldn't survive eating just steak or chicken everyday.

The fish need the crabs, and fats etc.

If your fish are behaving like that, they are severely stressed. Discus owners who take proper care of their fish, do the needed water changes, keep the temperatures between 84 and 88 degrees, and feed them properly, do not have fish that behave like this. Mine come to the front of the tank every time I walk in the room, will follow me from one end of the tank to the other, and will come round and nudge my hand when my arm is in the tank vacuuming gravel. They scramble to the surface when they see food coming, gobble it up, and wait for more.
And when they want to move fast, they can.
I'm finding it harder and harder to believe, as I read your posts, that you are in fact serious about keeping discus.
I'm beginning to think you don't keep discus at all, and that you're just "trolling" this forum to get yourself a big laugh at how you're upsetting the people on it.

i was not talking about my fish . if u read carefully the discuss was about the fish in the wild. in an aquarium all the fish come to u because they associate u with food. they come to u even if they are well feed . mine do the same . u know they have a very short memory

When you open the "post reply" window, under the "reply to thread" section is the "additional options" section. In here you will see the "attach files" prompt. Just click on "manage attachments" and follow from there.

I had the same problem. Go to photobucket.com and upload your pics there. Then, you just insert the link. The size will be more appropriate.

They may be adults and fully grown, no idea unless you know their history. Feeding regime for a planted tank and adults/near adults would be completely different from a bare bottomed tank and juveniles.

If it was my tank, I'd skip the beefheart - could be a huge source of algae & water quality problems without sizable and frequent waterchanges. If you can get them started with pellets supplemented with frozen food treats, that would be more nutrionally complete with fewer feeds. If you think they're fully grown or you're happy with their size, I'd even go for 1 feed a day with a quality dry food. Otherwise, they're nice looking fish in a good looking tank.

the guy that sold em to me said that they are less than 1 and half years. i m new to this fis so i m experimenting . i ll see how it goes with this 2 and maybe i ll buy a bigger tank later. i just don t like bb tanks . what do u think will be the best clean up crew after i feed beff hart cos they like it very much and i still wanna give to them . i have 3 bristlenose 1 cory snails amd 2 clovn pleco thanx

Honestly, best way of cleaning up after feeding beefheart is a big water change.

Otherwise, you have a pretty good looking cleanup crew already, maybe a few more corys to keep them happy.

Gorgeous fish! I have adults in a plant tank as well, and feed at most twice per day. Corys are a great clean-up crew, and they are schooling fish, so get at least 5 more (6 total minimum). Also, some of the dwarf cichlids (apistogramma sp., dicrossus sp., etc) feed off the bottom and do well with discus.

Good luck! You have made a great start!
