So, I have experience in breeding red bellied piranhas, but I know that breeding discus is a completely different story. But I'm thinking that in caring for the fry, for the first couple of weeks that is what the parents, the pair, do; correct? With reds I take the eggs out and put them into my automatic water changing hatch/fry setup consisting of a ro/di run to waste setup. My question is, what do I have to do to successfully raise discus fry? I hatch baby brine shrimp and also culture microworms and also have decapsulated brine shrimp eggs. What kind of a water change schedule would I need for a 40 gallon tank for fry with a lustar hydro 5 sponge filter? Also, I know that young fry need lots of feedings, but what is a good number of feedings per day for discus fry? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

At about day 3 of free swimming I start feeding live bbs. At 1 to 1.5 weeks I start introducing bh and worms. Normally will leave the parent(s) with the fry for about approx 3 weeks. Our fry get feed 6 times a day with a 80-90% wc twice a day. (once in the am and once in the pm). Once the fry start wiggling there water is switched from RO/tap to straight aged tap water. Make sure and keep your tank clean and clean your sponge regularly.

So, whilst the parents are still taking care of the new born fry, getting nourishment from the parents, you feed bbs to them as well? You say you et the parents take care of the fry for at least 3 weeks, how do you introduce bh and worms at 1 to 1.5weeks? Also, what do you mean that when the fry start wiggling you switch the water to aged tap, do you take the fry out of the parent tank, or do you take the parents out of the breeder tank and leave the fry in there?

Well, most of the eggs have turned out with fungus and have turned white and fuzzy. There are still some viable ones left, but I'm not too worried about this clutch, I'm just glad I've found a pair.
