I've read several times on this forum the importance of QTing new plants, as well as new fish. Do I need to treat the plants with something during QT? Can plants carry disease as well as snails?

Plants and the water on them have no problem transferring parasites and bacteria around, no different than nets or your hands.

The easiest way to clean plants up is by using a dip of 6ppm PP or even a 1/20 bleach/water solution. Leave them in it for about 15 minutes and then rinse well

Thanks Graham. Sounds much easier than introducing new fish!

I prefer the PP over bleach. PP is a bit harder to come across (sears has it) but it won't burn the leaves of the more delicate plants.

PP scares me...I had using strong chemicals of any kind.

I wouldn't worry, you have a lot more toxic chemicals under your sink.

While you have lots of toxic chems around the house never treat PP lightly...it can and will kill fish very easily when used improperly, weigh it out. It can and will burn gills filaments and fins when dosed too heavily and it can wipe out a bio...

The crystals will permanently stain clothes and will stain you're fingers dark browm for several days...been there on this one many times. If inhaled it can burn lungs, in the eyes it can blind.

My point.... treat it with great respect..........it's great chem when used properly
