my tap water has a ph of 8.2 .other than a ro unit is there a safe way to lower it or can the fish do well in it

Discus can do fine in 8.2 ph. (except breeding) Before you get them find out what ph the dealer has. If there is a large difference you will need to aclimate them to your ph. (drip method or gradualy adding your water)
Changing ph is difficult If your KH is high and not neccisary. Don T.
